INDUSTRY'S TOP HARDWARE, SOFTWARE AND TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES ENDORSE
NEW M2
NEW YORK AND REDWOOD CITY, CALIF. (MAY 2) BUSINESS WIRE - MAY 2,
1995--Executives from IBM, Motorola, MEI/Panasonic, Goldstar,
Electronic Arts, Universal Interactive Studios, Interplay Productions
and Spectrum HoloByte spoke out in support of 3DO's next-generation
64-bit M2 technology during East and West Coast briefings hosted by the
3DO Company today. The revolutionary M2 system architecture was
designed by the world's leading processor, graphics and audio system
designers, and represents a quantum leap in advanced CD entertainment
technology.
At a press and industry analyst briefing in New York, 3DO President and
CEO, Trip Hawkins, demonstrated the unequaled image, graphics and CPU
processing power of the M2 technology, which is based on 10
revolutionary custom graphics and sound processors designed by 3DO, and
a specially designed IBM PowerPC 602 microprocessor. Following
Hawkins' presentation, IBM's Phil Hester, General Manager, Systems and
Technology Architecture Division, outlined the key features of he
PowerPC 602, and described how IBM and 3DO have worked together to make
M2 the best possible product for interactive entertainment
applications.
Immediately following the M2 technology briefing in New York, Hawkins
lead an industry panel featuring IBM's Hester and other senior
executives from MEI/Panasonic, Goldstar, Motorola and Electronic Arts.
A similar briefing, featuring senior technical and business executives
from Universal Interactive Studios, Interplay Productions, and
Sprectrum Holobyte,was given to Bay Area media by 3DO executives at the
company's Redwood City headquarters.
"The 3DO M2 platform is an important design win for PowerPc. The M2
system takes full advantage of the PowerPc architecture and its
price/performance benefits," said Kevin Meyer, Vice President and
Director of Market Development Q PowerPC, Semiconductor Products
Sector, Motorola. "We look forward to working with 3DO and its
licensees to support their needs for the 602 microprocessors and to
assure the success of the M2 platform."

Hawkins and 3DO company executives said they plan a three-phase
roll-out of the M2 technology over the next several months, beginning
with today's Phase I technology unveilings. During Phase II, the
company will announce product configurations, hardware and software
partners and M2 launch titles. Phase III will provide specific launch
details, including price, availability, distribution and hardware and
software marketing plans.
